
They know what to do…but they still can’t start.
This isn’t a motivation problem. It’s a performance problem and starting requires the right support.
Students with ADHD often struggle to begin tasks—not because they lack skills or understanding, but because of how their brain regulates activation and executive control in real time.
As you saw in the presentation, starting breaks down for two main reasons:
- The brain isn’t activated in a way that allows action
- The problem isn’t actually task initiation at all
When we misidentify the problem, we use supports that don’t work and starting still doesn’t happen.
